GFS Model animation

http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/graphics_ep2.shtml?5-daynl#contents

Above is a weather map predicting the track of Tropical Storm Barbara. GFS modeling takes into account information provided by dropsondes along with air and water temperature to give meterologists multiple possible tracks for a storm. Those tracks can then be used to produce 3 day cone of probability animations.

Standard Time Zones

The time zone map shown above is particularly useful while traveling east or west across the U.S. There is also a bit of trivial information in this map. There is a state that borders the Atlantic Ocean and a state that borders the Pacific Ocean that experience the same time of day. Which two are they? Florida and Oregon. There is a portion of Florida that is in the Central Time Zone and a portion of Oregon that is in the Mountain Time Zone. In the Fall when we move our clocks back an hour for daylight savings, people of both states have clocks that say 2 AM at the same time for an hour.http://www.nationalatlas.gov/printable/timezones.html#one

Thermatic

The above Thermatic map depicts the flow of ocean currents and sea ice. It was developed for the U.S. Army in 1943. It would have been usefull when making global weather predictions that might affect the various theaters of war during WWII.http://www.lib.utexas.edu/maps/thematic.html
